How can I grow my own vegetables?

Greenforest, Glass, Plant, Home, Decor

As a result of the pandemic, a number of people have started to look into growing some of their fruits and vegetables. I love the actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish. She has a youtube series during the lockdown giving us a tour of her garden and some helpful tips, it' called 'Mermaid in the Garden', i find it funny and inspirational and hope you do too. Lets jump right into this note- all you need to do is to start with this 4 step guide.

1. Space

Space is the first thing to consider before starting to a garden. From flower pots , wooden drawers, car tires, bottles and portable green houses the list is endless. Preparing a space for your mini or big garden depends on your current habitation settings. Its best to start small and build up with time. A place with great sunlight would work well. Maintaining plants on a regular basis can become daunting and using a small space can either make or break your commitment to your garden.

2. Soil

The easiest option is to purchase this from your local gardening shop. Some people opt to create their own soil by using lime, cottonseed, compost, bone meal and peat moss. You can also test your soil to ensure you add what is actually needed. Check out https://www.wikihow.com/Prepare-the-Soil-for-a-Vegetable-Garden for more information about testing and preparing your soil.

3. Seed

The top plants to grow as a beginner includes ; mint, cucumber, tomato, lettuce, radish, and onions.
You can make your own seeds from reliable source of vegetables or purchase online.

4. Sow

This is the last part and quite easy. Sowing your seed requires you to dig a hole , add your seed and cover it up with soil and a sprinkle of water. Depending on the kind of seed, sowing is not just a one time task but requires frequent checks to pull out weeds, water the plant and check for any plant eating bugs. You can also use Cayenne  pepper/water  as a natural pesticides to avoid using harsh chemicals. Sprinkle it over your vegetables to avoid pests.

In conclusion all the S about garden space, soil, seed and sowing can get you started on the amazing journey of growing your own food. You can also get books from your local library, follow farmers on Instagram and learn more on You-tube about how to grow your favorite vegetables. Don't forget to share your thoughts and experience.
