Habits of Highly Effective Humans

Habits of Highly Effective Humans

When I was a teen, my dad gave me this book by Stephen Covey called the 7 habits of highly effective teens .  This was an amazing book that changes me as a human.  To change your life, you need to first change your habits. First lets talk about habits.
Habits run your life, if you have bad habits, you . If you have good habits, life would be awesome. There are 3 habits loop;

The Cue : this is the trigger , brain is in auto pilot can be feeling or thoughts
The Routine : behavior that happens once the trigger is present. its the action that we take when we are cued.
The Reward: Why we perform the routine- learn something new, the feeling or a physical reward.

I read this book and it changed my character. I was able to recognize my inner strength and abilities . I aspired to do more and add value to myself, people and my community. Being effective is quite achievable but to be highly effective is to experience life at the fullest and focus solely on personal character and abilities.
The First one to consider is to be proactive.

1. Be Proactive

I have read this feature countless time in job descriptions but do we truly know what it looks like in our daily lives?. Our behavior is a function of our decisions, not our condition.

Responsibility (R) - response + ability.

We all have the ability to choose our response. Do not blame circumstance or conditions for behaviors. Our behavior is a product of our own conscious choice, based on values rather than feelings. Be driven by values - carefully thought about, selected and internalized values. Not like the reactive people who are governed by their feelings, circumstance condition and environment.
What matters most is how we respond to our experiences in live.

3 types of Values

Experiential - Happens to us
Creative - We bring into existence
Attitudinal - Response under pressure

Initiative(I) means recognizing our responsible to make things happen.
When faced with a problem, use your resourcefulness and initiative R and I.
Focus on your circle of influence not your circle of concerns. Focus positive energy on things you can do something about.

2. Begin with the END in mind

Personal leadership is important.
Imagine your funeral- what would you people (extended, family, work friends, church family, immediate family) to say about you.
Management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right thing. Lead and govern yourself first and then you can lead others by serving. With the end goal in mind, everything in between is worth the journey to the finish line.

3. Put First thing First

Write the program of your current life. Take the steps and actions required to make your vision a reality.
What is the most important thing for you in this moment?
Why do we spend so much time checking Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok, Snapchat (social media)?
Does it add value to your goal?
Does it edify you?
First thing last means being unorganized , waking up late, driving to work late, not going to bed on time.
Time management skill- Categorize things in Q1 Important and Urgent, Q2 Important and Not Urgent, Q3 not important and urgent, Q4 not important and not urgent .

4. Think WIN-WIN

6 types of personal and business relationship
1. Lose-win
2. Win-lose
3. lose-lose
4. Win - selfish
5. No deal
6. Win- win

Defend the relationships in your circle of influence and put more efforts into building relationship that would lead to WIN-WIN. All types of relationships have their order of priority and value should be awarded accordingly.

In conclusion, we will look into the other 3 habits discussed in the book , but i suggest you add this book to your personal library its a great read and reference that can be used for a lifetime.
