A balanced life

We usually talk about a balanced diet, what about a balanced life. The concept of work- life balance is a bit of a myth and not realistic for modern work practices - but thanks to a pandemic a lot of organisations have restructured the way we work. From remote working, to flexible work pattern and so forth a lot has changed in 2020. I used to work for a company that thought it was bizarre to work from home. Given the current state, they have been forced to build laptops for thousands of employees and offer cloud-based systems in the space of 3 months. This was a change that seemed impossible for 5 years ago. A digitally transformed organisation where employees can work remotely can support the great dream of a work-life balance, especially for women.  Accepting you cant do it all The first step is accepting you cants do everything. This means setting boundaries with yourself and others, and prioritising the most important jobs. Working from home does not mean you have more capacity to

Skin Health - 5 Acne Triggers

With that said, if topical treatments haven’t made a difference, it may be time to change what you eat. More doctors and estheticians than ever believe in a diet-acne connection, and some common foods are now believed to be breakout triggers. Here, 7 foods that can make acne worse. (On the bright side, chocolate is not on the list.) Diary Bad news, dairy queens: milk actually doesn’t do a complexion good. Because of recent research on diet and acne, the American Academy of Dermatology now says there may be a link between milk consumption and breakouts. Blame the hormones in dairy, says Dr. Frank Lipman, an integrative and functional medicine physician and the founder of Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in New York City. “Dairy causes spikes in certain pimple-producing hormones,” he explains. “I encourage patients to have almond m

Check and Check Again

Recently I applied for business access on a global platform. As it was the norm, I was waiting for an email to confirm the status - Yes, No or additional information required. After a couple of weeks, I decided to just log on and check if I had the required access and waha- access granted.  Sometimes in life, you might be waiting for that prompt, notification, signal, trigger or whatever you may call it. Don't wait for the rain to fall before you think about planting a seed. Go ahead and plant the seed and keep checking on the seed by watering, taking off the weeds and pests. When you see rain fall, that's just the cherry on top (extra) in addition to the work you have already put in. Note to self always check, check and check again. Double checking brings excellent results. If you are searching for a job and you have not heard back, call the agency, follow the organisation on linkedin, chase up as much as you can- all you need to secure an opportunity is one yes - in the mis

The Pull Over

My first experience with the police was as a teenager. I was driving in Dallas Texas on the way to the shops and got pulled over for speeding. I calmly responded to the cop, answered his questions and showed the necessary documents. He wrote me a ticket for speeding and that was it. I paid the ticket off and several more speeding tickets came later on. Everyone's first experience with the police is different. As humans we tend to react differently to people in authority. A coloured person might have a different reaction, due to the historic issue of slavery, culture, or family history.  I was part of a conference call, and the keynote speaker is a lawyer and pastor in London. It was an insightful discussion and just a few key points to remember.  Pull Over  The police can pull you over at anytime, adhere and pull over when it's safe to do so.  Stay calm and remember to keep our hands visible.  Be polite and respectful.  If you are asked for a breath test, comply with the police
